VPN unexpected connect dialog box shown: troubleshooting

While browsing the web, I have unexpected VPN connection dialog box displayed popped up.

How to fix this? Go to [Control Panel]-[Internet Options]-[Connections tab] and choose “Never dial a connection”.

(ウェブを見ていると時々勝手にVPN接続のダイアログボックスが表示されてしまう問題について)

サービス設定

Wgrp is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network name cannot be found.

  • RasAuto manual→automaticにし、開始。変化なし。

トラブルシューティング

Windowsファイルの修復をしたところ、ログインするたびに画面の解像度1600x1200から800x600に切り替わるようになってしまった。再度変更しても、再起動するとまた800x600になってしまう。

[Display Properties]-[Settings]-[Advanced]をクリックすると、

The NVIDIA Display Panel extension cannot be created.

Possible reasons include:
Version mismatch. Reinstalling display drivers may solve this problem.

と表示された。ちなみにグラフィックチップはNVIDIA GeForce 6150。Control Panelから表示されたドライバは、3/9/2006 Version 8.4.2.1。

新しいドライバをダウンロードしてきてインストールすることで治った。インストール時にExtensionが作成できないというエラーが何度か表示された。新しいドライバのバージョンは、10/22/2006の6.14.10.9371。

トラブルシューティング

CD-ROMが見えなくなってしまった。

CD-ROMドライブが認識できなくなった。確認できた症状は、 - CD-ROMドライブ自体はちゃんとつながっていて動いているようだ。Ejectボタンを押すとトレーが開閉する。 - Device ManagerにはCD-ROMドライブのエントリが出ているが、黄色い「!」が表示されている。その内容を読んでみると以下のようなエラーが書かれていた。

A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

解決方法 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;320553 MSのサポートページにある手順に従って2つのレジストリを消去し、再起動することで回復した。

余計なソフトウェアの除去

DvzMsgr.exeは、DataViz社のPalm用のソフトウェアDocuments To Goをインストールすると母艦PCにインストールされ、ソフトウェアアップデートなどを取りに勝手にネットワークにアクセスする。

StartupにC:\WINDOWS\DvzCommon\DvzMsgr.exeへのショートカットがあるのでそれを除去。

サービスのうち以下のものを停止した。 Wireless Zero Configuration - うちのデスクトップPCは無線LANは不要なため。 SSDP Discovery Service - UPnPは使っていないし、使う予定も今のところなし。 Error Reporting Service - クラッシュした場合のツールらしい。 Terminal Services

XP英語版で日本語を使えるようにする

前提条件 ・Windowsの製品CDに入っているEast Asia Language Packが必要。 ・Local Adminstrator権限も必要。 ・XP ProでもXP Homeでも大丈夫。

  1. Control Panel→Region and Laugnage OpionsでLanguagesタブのInstall files for East Asian langugesをチェック。CDを使ってインストール。

この状態だと、UTF8対応でないアプリの表示が化ける。

  1. AdvancedタブのLanguage for non-Unicode programsをJapaneseに。

この状態では、アプリごとにInput Methodを日本語に切り替えなければならない。

  1. Text Service and Input LanguagesをJapanese - Microsoft IME Standard 2002 ver. 8.1に。

これでほぼうまく動くようになる。

システムログを見る

Event Viwerでシステムログが見られる。コマンドラインからはeventvwrで起動できる。
